I love this. I'm right in the middle of The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter, so the title gave me an extra little smile.
I can think of only one thing: following the road. I am not afraid of the dark shadow I just want to go ahead! great photo!

the landscape there is incredible. there's still a vast amount of ash of the eyjafjallajökull eruption. you open the window of the car and 30 seconds later your car interiour is covered with ash and sand :D

I really like how you've let the background go out of focus, while keeping the foreground sharp. The opposite of how most folks would take this shot.
