curious: In Miles' defense, they both live in the same city, roughly around the same area, both snowed in, see the same things... You didn't think we'd ever see an overlap? Hang on.. do they use the same camera too? Oh man that's it... arrest him.
There's nothing to understand. These things happen. Once we posted the same image of exactly the same thing taken at almost exactly the same time but from different places:
But no, I don't set out to "copy Sam". Shooting bikes and streetcars in the snow is not exactly original in this city, and neither is posting them in a timely fashion. This image above was taken on Monday, as was the shot of the bike, which was originally posted on Torontoist, submitted to them the day before Sam posted his shot
Sam and I know each other pretty well and there's no deliberate copying going on. Although I will admit, I changed the title of this after I saw his shot yesterday as an inside joke. I'm not going to start deleting any of my pictures that are in any way similar to his if he posts first just for the sake of appearance :)
I will no longer take any shot of the Empire State Building or any other landmark for that matter. After all, someone took pictures of them already and I dont want to come across as a copycat.
very nice!! I like beautiful shots of Toronto. I always wanted to find a great subject to take when it's snowing. You captured it well here, but it's even better in your bike picture with the bokeh. Very cool blog! Cheers,

I just love this. Everything about it is wonderful.
God this photo of a street car is different in composition but similar in theme to many OTHER photos of streetcars taken when the snow falls. Also, moving Mute to a new server is SO copying other photoblogs that ALSO move to other servers.
PLUS my blog has a white background - STOP STEALING MY THOUGHTS!
Wow, I didn't know that pure unadulterated originality was the standard. I am an amateur and just started a proto-photblog and I am sure that I am copying someone. I guess I should throw in the towel. :)
Miles, I really like your photographs, even if they are copied :)
@curious: Thanks for the links, I really like seeing two photographers' vision of the same subject. Really allows their personal style to show through.
I'm sure curious was just curious :) I know I was. All clear know!

i don't understand why anyone would call that "copying"! It certainly is the same subject matter, but the perspective/treatment is different!
funny enough, both these shots appeared on the same page on my flickr and i just thought it was interesting to see different viewpoints of the same thing.
Next thing you know Miles will show up in Durham Township.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean "copy", just a bad choice of words. I just noticed that the subjects were sometimes almost the same day to day, by no means I meant that Miles is a copycat. Thanks for clearing that out :)
I am a regular visitor of your site as well as Top Left Pixel. When I saw your photo, (and the title; nice one!!), I thought the same thing. When it's snowing like it has the last few days, I guess there isn't much else to photo. Credit to both of you guys that regularly inspire with enough other original ideas. Cheers!!

I can't understand why you copy Sam (usually one day after him you post almost the same picture)

Very good job, I love this shot, the dof, black and white, processing... great, great and great.

You should just delete any photos you take in Canada. It's only fair. There's a 50/50 chance he was born there first.
Nice shot, btw!

Plus, there's the possibility that neither of you were born there at all. But I digress.

Brandon, funnily enough neither of us were born in Canada, so I figure it's last man standing! Which of course will be him, and his gazillion fans :)
Edit: exactly!

Lovely shot of these iconic streetcars. The image has a classic feel to it. And coupled with the snow storm, this exemplifies the city of Toronto.
