I've not really explored the video capabilities of the 5d much over the past year but I have been taking clips here and there, this is the first video I've ever posted. Creating something with a narrative and structure doesn't really interest me, but I do like the idea of creating this kind of 'moving picture vignette'. Plus I had absolutely no idea how to process video and it proved pretty frustrating trying to find the right work flow.

These three short clips were taken last weekend when I headed out to the island before dawn with temperatures dropping into the -30s with wind chill. You can see the water vapour steaming off the water, reaching high into the sky further out in the lake where it's deeper and the temperature difference between the air and water greater. The audio is the sound of wind and ice recorded during the first clip. I used 17-40 and 200mm lenses.

Well done Miles. Not to nitpick but I was listening for the sound of the duck taking off and missed it. I know you used the same sound for all but maybe consider adding another sound channel with local sounds from the particular place. You can lower and raise the local sound channel's volume as needed keeping a single background soundscape to tie the entire thing together.

Thanks Richard, I would happily have included the duck sounds, I listened for them on the original clip, but the wind and ice noises were simply too loud. That scene was shot with the 200mm, so the duck was pretty far out in the first place and the sound capabilities of the 5d are really minimal, though you can attach a proper mic.

Beautiful, I love the natural motion, especially in the undulating ice, and swirling mists. I'd like to have seen a bit more footage from each location, perhaps fewer locations, but longer clips there. Anyway, great =]

Loved this, Miles. Great job! I'm working on the same type of thing w/the 5DM2 but haven't posted anything yet. Still figuring out the editing and sound bits as well.
