Toronto - Canon 40d w/10-20

A shot of Toronto from the CN Tower at 6am, open to photographers as part of the Nuit Blanche event. I took a similar shot last year at midnight. This time I had a wider lens so didn't need to merge images. I think the one I took last year is much better, perhaps because I used a prime lens instead of a zoom.

I think I like last years too but this one has a pretty cool perspective to it too.

I think the first edges it for me, that said they are both stunning shots....

Has a great "future is now" megalopolis feel.

Wow. That's awesome. I wish I knew about it. I would have loved to be there. That's a great shot, but I too like last years better.

I definitely like this one best, not just because it has a distinctive bluer cast than the first. I think the perspective is more interesting and there's a bit more of the city to consider in this crop. However, they both have a certain amount of the window reflection apparent across the entire surface which could be neutralized a bit (and opunched up) by some added contrast or tone mapping.

Thanks everyone, it was actually pretty chaotic, the tower people hadn't bothered to clear out the people at the end of each session so it was crowded up there, and a lot of people weren't taking pictures (the whole event is supposed to be an opportunity for photographers and is connected to the Contact photography festival). Some people were using flashes to take photographs of the view, messing up a lot of people doing long exposures. Even worse come 6:40am, just as the light is changing security guards started closing up and kicking us all out. So instead of an hour of photographic manna it was about 35 minutes of jostling and missed opportunities.

Still I got a nice picture of the sunrise from the elevator on the way down...

Bob, I see the window reflections but, as I mentioned somewhere last year, I decided not to try and compensate for it.

Your previous shot may show more detail, but I prefer the colors and slightly different composition of this image. That is quite a view!

Both are very impressive in their own rights. I think this one could use a little work in the shadows- they seem a little too light to me.

Very cool. Sure must have been hard with a ton of other people around though. Certainly a stunning view - one too good to pass up in any case.

This is a most impressive image. I've never seen so many lights in one spot in my entire life. Small towns sleep, big cities don't :)

Both the shots are good in their own right, although the first one edges slightly ahead ... but not by much. I think I like the colours in this one better...
