I think this one would be perfect if he weren't lobotomized.

I am amazed at the beauty of the portraits in this series. I was wondering how you approach strangers to get these in your face shots. Do you make conversation with them? Do you ask before taking their portrait?

No-no, I like the way the top of his head is cut off. It makes him feel tall and imposing.

OK, so spill the secret about your portraits. How do you get them this alive? I promise I won't tell.... :)

    Thanks everyone.

Mark, this is the framing that feels right to me, not all the time (as with the portrait of Ryan a few days ago) but 90% of the time this is what works for me.

Marci, it really depends, everyone is different and you just need to step up and try. Some people I stop and talk to for a while, an hour or more sometimes, others it's just a please and thank you. The only thing that's important for me is not to deceive the subject, let them know you want a photo from the beginning rather than getting friendly then whipping out your camera.

You have the gift to really make the eyes sort of jump out of the portrait, if youu get my drift...
