The top one is wonderful as much for the character and pose as the shot. I like to see portraits like this with the background a pleasing blur and the subject isolated in their own space and in this case such delightful detail in the face and hair. Excellent!
I do think that both pictures compliment each other being part of a conversation which is precisely what creates the mood. Two guys completely unaware of the camera performing the play of real life. Not telling who is who is a wonderful idea. Though in a Hollywood picture it is clear that the one on top would be the main character.
Stunning detail on both portraits, but I'm biased towards the cypriot. I LOVE his eyes, they are simply wonderful.

Thanks everyone :)
The Columbian is the guy at the top, 'Art' Fernandez. He has a car covered in pennies that you might have seen around Toronto. I have shots of it that I'll put up on flickr.

Good B&W's. The bottom man's eyes could use a little dodging, but that may just be his eyelashes.

Hey, I just found your site this evening, and I've almost got through all the pictures. I'm very impressed, and thats an understatement!!
I love your "picture of the day" links, so I've started doing it too. thanks for showing us your pictures!
Love these two pictures, the 1st one reminds me of robin williams, but i love the facial hair, it adds a feeling of real maturity to the image.

What great detail on the top image. His beard and hair make for interesting textures, but his eyes have an amazing amount of character.

damned joseph! I noticed the guy looked a little like robin williams yesterday but was far too tired to comment!!!
Great work, although I don't think that the bottom photograph was needed as its simply outclassed by the top
