Was this shot using a black/dark backdrop, or it is 'cut' out and placed on a black canvas in PS?

Thanks all, I appreciate the comments.
This flower was picked out by natural light against a dark background. I used a multiply layer to burn out the background detail and leave the flower as the only visible element. So there's no cutting out anything but it wasn't a set up shot either.
It was actually shot outside in a dark corner in the grounds of Osgoode Hall in Toronto.

I guess simplicity rules sometimes. Very nicely isolated capture. Good job.

Beautiful B&W! You're title made me smile because I too like to take shots of flowers but hardly ever know their names :-)

I like how it seems to emerge from the shadow.

That is quite surprising it was shot outside...and not a setup. Perfect excecution in both the original shot and processing.

So moody and beautiful. The soft composition with the dark slight taking over the flower does it for me.

Well done. A careful conversion to B&W really can transform an image. I like a lot how it emerges slowly from the darkness.
