Very intense portrait. The man has a rather mysterious expression in my opinion since you cannot really say if he is smiling or thinking or both (a little bit like the Mona Lisa :-)...). BTW: Great DOF!

I couldn't even imagine this shot in colour (not that it wouldn't work in it, I just can't)

Quite an interesting DOF (blurry ears and all)...

Its an extremely well executed lovely shot! Did you speak to the guy?

of course a very strong portrait
the perfect focus and limited depth of field pulls all the attention towards the most important in this human face... the eyes
this face tells a story for sure... you've succeeded in freezing part of the story...
    congrats miles!

This is a face that tells a lot of stories, the expression and the age and texture of his face really are so full of character. Excellent photo.

Why do photos of old wrinkled people look so cool?

  • oldshutterhand

Uncountable moments of a lifetime engraved in these wrinkles. This picture tells more than one story!

Ahhhh the stories he must have to tell... the opening lines read in his eyes and the creases of his face draw the urge to sink to the floor at his knee...the warmth of the fire behind you a quiet crackling underscore to the tales that spill from his memory.....listening rapt as days and adventures past roll out before you with the tick tick tick cadance of an old beaten brass pocketwatch and the honest and rough texture of workworn hands.....
