Notre-Dame Montreal - canon 20d w/17-40

I'm almost done with renovations and then I can get out and get some new shots. This one is of the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, probably the most spectacular church I've seen in North America.

See it larger, and view an alternate shot.

Hand held at f4 and 1/8s.

What amazes me is the light. Especially at the end wall behind the altar your photo capture much more light than I am used seeing in large cathedrals in Europe. All this light really opens up this close space.

Wow that is an amazing church, I should have visited it while I was in Montreal. Good call on not taking a typical center composition on this one. I really like the alternate as well. Looking foward to seeing some new work of yours, even though archives are new to me. (Note: I am not poking at your archives). Anyhow, thanks for posting even when you do not have much time to do so. later.

Beautiful. I actually prefer the alternative shot just a slight bit more. The dynamic of the composition really shows the dizzying height of the ceiling.

I have a mirror version (taken on the right side) of this exact photo! I got off one shot off my tripod before I was noticed. :) You have really good handholding technique!

Obviously a place of serious granduer. The colors are stunning.

Also, am I the only nut who thinks it looks like you're heading down the aisle to Cinderella's Castle at Disney? :)

It is indeed gorgeous. I'm amazed you got it so sharp. I believe I was at the same church, but wasn't able to do it any justice.
