Fantastic shot. There's a strange combination of intrigue and even a slight bit of menace about this shot. Perhaps it's just that whole "Smoking Man" X-Files thing ;)

This man has the greatest ears I've ever seen.
Another classic photo.
Curious-- which camera and lens did you use? I'm astounded by the quality you're getting from this 35mm.
Keep these beauties coming!

Thanks all, the camera is a Canon 20d with the 50mm f1.8 lens. It's a great lens optically but lacks decent build or focusing speed so I use it on manual focus most of the time and try not to drop it :)

fine shot ... my favorite part about this shot is how you were able to capture the puff of smoke coming out of his mouth.

I can never be bothered to read all the comments when there is as many as you get, so forgive me If I repeat anyone else.
This is just lovely. One of my favourites of yours.
I really like the detail on his hand, his expression, that fact that he's looking away from the camera, the smoke from his mouth, the DoF is just stunning, the black and white tones are perfect. To sum up, you are god.

What an incredible B&W shot. What aperature did you use on that 50mm?
2005-03-19
Michael Czeiszperger
Oh, and I forgot to ask how you did the B&W conversion...

miles
Hey Michael this was taken at f4. The conversion was done using the channel mixer. I had been trying a plugin BW converter but wasn't satisfied with the results.
