2004-07-27: This is my neighbour's cat, 'Brown Cat' is her name. I'm fascinated by the look of cats' eyes, they remind me of diving on a coral reef, and I think the combination of colours here is interesting.
I do have a polarising filter for my G5, but didn't use it for this shot, but I did use the camera-internal 'vivid' setting which I think works well in certain conditions.
The camera was on a mini tripod and I used exposure bracketing (I find the G5 overexposes a bit in bright light) and this was the darker result with a bit of colour correction/enhancement in photoshop (levels and curves) but the original image was almost as saturated as this result.
I do look for saturated colours and I think the cat's own colours and the natural light from the window next to her really brought it out in the image.
A lot of shots I take are dull and flat, like anyone with a digital compact, and you can't compensate for that even in PS without really high gain in the image.
Beautiful colours. I love the texture. I can feel the hair between her eyes. Still looking to upgrade my apparatus I continue to be impressed with what the G5 can do.
I'm in the middle of finals right now, and for a bit of a mental break I was surfing around random photoblogs - this image really made my day, I love the eyes. Thank you! :)

Maybe I'm missing the point ? I look at these eyes and they look so...unreal. I wish my cat had eyes like that...actually...I'd like eyes like that !!! Beautiful !
Indeed, I use this picture much, I shall be using this with a few programs to test out what I can do with the eyes, great picture. Tell your neighbour they have a very beautiful cat :).
OMG! I love this picture and I've seen it used a lot! I was just looking for brown cat images, and this was the first one. I had actually been looking for this image, and hadn't found, and was excited when I did.
I really like photography, and I take pictures when ever I can. I have been wanting to take a perfect picture for a certain town contest, and when I look at this picture close up I can't help and think that this picture would diffently win. Also the other photo you uploaded of this cat looks great even with out the effects. The blurred area aroud the tail, makes it look enhanced, not real. I like your pictures a lot and I agree with Shikito^^, you need to upload more photos on this cat! ;)

Do you use any filters on the camera? (Polarizing, etc) .. To get those vibrant colours?

I'll upload one of the other images that's untreated to compare,

great shot. i think -diving on a coral reef- sums up the eyes perfectly.
