Mute Photoblog

Dyrhólaey, a spectacular promontory in southern Iceland near the town of Vik. This is one of my favourite places in Iceland, it has a special feeling about it. The views from the top are amazing. To the west the coastline stretches for miles, to the north there are mountains and the glacier Mýrdalsjökull, to the east there's a sweeping black sand beach and the rock stacks of Reynisdrangur. When it's not too windy you can walk out on a spur 100 metres high that reaches out to sea over a large archway eroded through the rock.

This was taken from a small cove amidst the rugged cliffs that teem with nesting birds from May-July, including the delightful puffin.
